Day 11: Becoming Best Friends with God

Romans 5:10

God wants to be your best friend. My relationship with God has many different aspects: God is my Creator and Maker, Lord and Master, Judge, Redeemer, Father, Saviour, and much more and God longs to have personal relationship with me.

We should long for a relationship with God, just as Abraham who was called “Friend of God”, David, “a man after God’s own heart”, Job, Enoch and Noah all had an intimate relationship with God. but it was the fear of the Lord, not friendship that they had in the Old Testament.

But when Jesus paid for our sins on the cross of Calvary, all this changed; now we all have access to God. With God’s grace through the sacrifice of Jesus, a friendship with God is possible. Knowing and loving God is our greatest privilege, and being known and loved is God’s greatest pleasure.

BECOMING A BEST FRIEND OF GOD
Through constant conversation.  Friendship with God is built by sharing all your life experiences with him, not by going to church once a week or even having a daily quiet time. Its good to have a daily devotional time with God, but want more than an appointment in your schedule, He wants to be included in every activity, every conversation, every problem and even every thought. You can carry on a continuous, open-ended conversation with Him throughout your day, talking with Him about whatever you are doing or thinking at that moment; that is praying without ceasing.

Knowing and loving God is our greatest privilege,
And being known and love is God’s greatest pleasure.

Most people think that spending time with God means being alone with him; yes we do need time alone with God, but that is only a fraction of the hours we are awake. But everything we do can be spent with God if He is invited to be a part of it and you stay away in His presence.

The key to having a friendship with God, is not changing what you so, but changing your ATTITUDE toward what you do. What you normally do for yourself you begin doing for God, whether it is eating, washing, working, relaxing, or taking out the trash. You don’t have to “get away” from our normal routine in order to worship God. But it is easier to worship God through the common tasks of life.

Point to ponder: God wants to be my best friend
Question to consider: What can I do to remind myself to think about God and talk to him more often throughout the day?
