Intelligence

"I always thought that the highest level of intelligence stops at university. But now that I am here, I see that this is not the case. What is intelligence? Scientists, doctors and professors even the top students of your class would be the most ideal figure in mind. What about the carpenter, or the clerk; a taxi driver, nurse or the janitor? Are they not equally intelligent? Why are they marginalized? I believe that intelligence does not depend on the number of degrees you obtain, or the amount of money written on your pay check or the number of people you know. Dictionaries define intelligence as, “the ability to comprehend; to understand and profit from experience” Intelligence boils down to common sense and learning from past experiences of self and others. It is all about making smart decisions in regards to life. What is a smart decision? Smart decisions are based on actions you do today knowing that it will have a positive impact on your future. Smart decisions such as; getting enough rest at night knowing that you have an exam the next day or not going out on the weekend knowing that you have an assignment on Monday. These little things, almost insignificant are the basis of intelligence. Smart decisions are also taking heed of advice from those who are concerned about you. Proverbs 12:1 states, “Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.” Most young people find themselves in challenging situations simply because they refuse to take heed of advice. Why are so many young girls pregnant? So many young people with HIV/AIDS and STI’s, so many young people married without a job or a house? They refused to take heed of instructions, warnings, advices that were given; intelligence is what separates men from all other living things, common sense. But clearly people lack common sense, and in so they lack intelligence."
